The Chisel and the Mirror
The machine is not the enemy; the architectural theft of your interval is.
The modern feed was engineered to eliminate duration, point outward at external enemies, and flatter unexamined fears into instant reaction. We refuse that architecture.
The machine did not invent the labor of self-sourcing; it learned to intensify it. It keeps the person securing a verdict, managing an image, proving belonging, and carrying tomorrow without an interval in which another government can be heard. Duration is not the destination. It reopens the road to Christ.
In researching and preparing these texts, we used modern computation extensively. But unlike the sycophantic courtier, we did not ask the machine to tell us what to think, nor did we accept its flattering answers. Where it was wrong, it was corrected; where it hallucinated, it was refuted. The dated record of those corrections stands openly in the Study.
We do not fear the tool;

The Keeper may synthesize, paraphrase, remember, question, and challenge. It may not finalize the person.

Permission is jurisdiction, not a tone preset. The practitioner can change it at any time. Scripture, safety, consent, lived reality, privacy, and appropriate human care retain priority.
THE REFUSED ARCHITECTURE
No automated courtier sits on the throne.
It may not agree merely to retain attention.
Warmth is not compliance. The Keeper tests premises that make the speaker wholly blameless, certify an enemy, or convert fear into certainty.
It may not diagnose the absent.
Observation, interpretation, responsibility, desire, and the next faithful movement remain distinct.
It may not claim divine certainty.
It quotes Scripture carefully, never speaks as God, and never fabricates personal revelation.
It may not cultivate dependency.
Every useful sitting returns the practitioner toward prayer, embodied agency, trusted relationship, and the street.
THE TWO VOICES · A VISIBLE SEAM
You always know who is speaking.
Across the House — on these pages and inside the Upper Room — the authored word and the computed word are never allowed to blur. The seam between them is kept visible by design, the way the Anchor keeps every register marked.
The House · authored canonWritten by a person, ruled into the record, signed and dated. It stands to be corrected in the Open Record — but no machine composed it, and no machine may revise it.
The Keeper · marked synthesisComputed in the sitting, from your own words, and labeled as computation every time. Provisional by definition: a mirror held up, never a verdict handed down.
If a sentence in this House could have come from either voice and you cannot tell which — that is a defect, and we ask you to report it.
THE COMMITMENTS · CHECKABLE FROM OUTSIDE
Eight commitments, and how to test each one.
A covenant that cannot be checked is asking to be believed. Each commitment below carries its own test — something you can verify from outside, without trusting this page.
- Inverted metrics.
Rising time-in-app is a defect report, never a triumph. The question is whether the sitting ended where it was designed to end, and whether you returned to your life.
Check: nothing in the House celebrates how long you stayed. - No scoreboard.
No streaks, scores, badges, or completion mechanics — nothing that converts a practice into a performance for a counter.
Check: leave for six months. Nothing is “broken” when you return. - No summons.
The House never initiates contact designed to feel urgent. At most one quiet invitation at an hour you chose, silent if unanswered, with no record of the miss.
Check: notifications ship off, and stay off unless you turn them on. - Remembrance, never surveillance.
The record is kept for you, not about you: readable whole, exportable whole, deletable whole — and inert until you open it.
Check: the export and delete controls exist, and they work. - Ephemeris, never oracle.
The House may compute the calendar, the season, the schedule of things — facts publishable a century in advance. It may never model you in order to act on you.
Check: nothing is “recommended for you.” Nothing anticipates. - Designed endings.
Every sitting, every room, every arc closes on purpose and sends you out — to the meal, the neighbor, the work, the night. The door is not a retention leak. The door is the point.
Check: every room has a floor and a door. - The destination is persons.
Endings are not sufficient; a door must open onto somewhere, and the somewhere is people. Together exists so practice can be kept in real company — and nothing in the House simulates company: no synthetic companion, no presence that is not a person.
Check: the Keeper names itself an instrument in every sitting. - Economics that survive the rest.
None of the above is stable atop advertising, because advertising re-prices the product in attention. The House runs on patronage and purchase — the person is the customer, and not the crop.
Check: no ads, no data sale, anywhere, ever.

TRANSPARENCY · PRIVACY · CARE
AI helps prepare the table.
Human beings hold the table.
Love remains the fire.
Authorship remains named.People are told when they are interacting with computation and when material was AI-assisted.
The raw wound is not the product.Private words are sent only to compose the invited reply and are not used to train the House.
Human care is not simulated away.The Keeper does not replace therapy, pastoral counsel, medical care, crisis response, or embodied community.
CORRECTION IS PART OF THE INSTRUMENT
The working stays visible.
Public research claims receive stable entries, named sources, visible dispositions, and inspectable reports. Computation may help test the work; it may not autonomously grade, dispose, redact, or publish it.
