Using projection on one half of the canon and exempting the other is to use it as a filter, not an argument—and the exemption is the thing needing justification.
The pass surveyed four criteria offered for keeping the merciful portraits: the cruciform hermeneutic, Luther’s was Christum treibet, Augustine’s rule of love, and canonical criticism. Not one is neutral. All are confessional priors that organise the evidence, and the honest ones say so.
The Codex holds the Christological criterion and now states plainly that it is a prior, not a result. The defence that no reading is criterion-free answers confessional opponents and leaves Feuerbach untouched.
