Modern culture has turned stillness into a technology for optimizing the self, and presence into a scarce resource to be harvested. We are told that if we only excavate deeply enough, we will find a spark to ignite, an energy to awaken, a divine source waiting to be drawn up from within our own depths.
But looking exclusively inward eventually yields an echo chamber. When you are your own source, you are also your own project — and that is a heavy, fracturing, and ultimately unsustainable burden.

We practice stillness. We cultivate interiority. We use the word presence. But the ground beneath our feet is entirely different.
One path says: look deeper into yourself and find the divine there. This path says: you are a creature, held by a Creator who is not you. We do not enter the silence to find ourselves; we enter the silence to be found by the One who whispered us into being.
This is not a new luxury or a modern discovery. It is a very old, steady Christian conviction. You do not have to generate life; you were simply designed to receive it. The Father's breath is what animates you — not the other way around.
The relief is precisely that. You are not your own.
